My clients love to entertain but their 1908 craftsman home was too enclosed and very small. They wanted to create an interior that was open and welcoming. The old ceiling was lifted and new structural beams were installed to allow for a high vaulted ceiling. We wanted to create a kitchen that was very open and visually balanced, with a sense of modern elegance. For the cabinetry, we selected quarter-sawn eucalyptus, with accents of Jarrah, an Australian red eucalyptus. The granite, Verde Fire, also from Australia, was used to accent the rich wood veneer. The glass top sits on a copper ledge, allowing friends to gather around while the homeowners prepare meals. The flooring is recycled bamboo. The custom hood was designed to accentuate the height and openness of their new space. The small, outdated living space became open and fun—perfect for cooking and entertaining.
